Excerpt from Chapter 5 “Bain Town”

The Thought Of Becoming A School Drop Out

I wanted to drop out of school. I told my mom I wanted to go to Grand Bahama and work because they had a lot of opportunities, and I would send all the money back to her. Then, we could concentrate on the last child, Cheryl, and try to get her to attend a university. But my mom said, “No.” She wanted me to be her first child to attend a university, and regardless of what it cost or how hard she had to work, she would ensure that I enrolled. She said under no circumstances could I drop out of school. So, I persevered.
